Kansas senators Jerry Moran and Pat Roberts issued statements of support after President Trump nominated appeals court judge Amy Coney Barrett to a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Senator Moran issued the following statement:
“Judge Amy Coney Barrett is a well-qualified nominee, having served as a clerk for Justice Scalia and distinguishing herself as a law professor at Notre Dame before receiving bipartisan support during her confirmation to the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. I will review Judge Barrett’s legal writings in the coming weeks, and I look forward to meeting with her to learn more about her views of the judicial branch and the Constitution.”
Senator Roberts said in a press release that he’s looking forward to a discussion with Barrett:
“I look forward to meeting with Judge Amy Coney Barrett, and I congratulate her on this most prestigious nomination,” said Sen. Roberts. “As a U.S. Senator, I have a responsibility to ‘advice and consent’ that I take very seriously. Over the coming weeks, I will thoroughly review Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s judicial record. I will only consider supporting a nominee who will uphold the Constitution and not legislate from the bench. I hope for a fair confirmation process as the Senate moves forward with Judge Barrett’s nomination.”
