Derby, Haysville school districts report COVID-19 cases

Officials with Derby Public Schools said in a message on social media that two positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed, and that has required a temporary quarantine for the Derby High School football team.   Students in some classrooms are also under quarantine.

Sedgwick County health officials have identified 94 close contacts with the two cases.  The contacts include a classroom with one of the positive cases, and others include some members of the junior varsity and varsity football teams and the entire freshman football team.   Those contacts are advised to follow quarantine procedures.   The quarantine will be in effect until the Health Department investigation is completed, according to a statement on the Derby Public Schools Facebook page.

Derby’s football game with Salina South on Friday has not been canceled at this point, but the district plans updated information later.

The Haysville school district has also taken steps after positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed.   The upcoming varsity football games between Campus High School and Maize South on September 25th and Campus vs Andover on October 4th will not be played.  At this time JV and freshman games against those schools are still scheduled.
