A crew of Wichita firefighters continues to watch for hot spots after a fire at a salvage yard Thursday evening.
The fire broke out in a large scrap pile around 7:30 p.m. at an iron and metal salvage yard near 29th Street North and Hoover Road. The fire sent up a thick column of black smoke that could be seen across the Wichita area.
No injuries were reported. Wichita fire marshal Stuart Bevis said a crew was staying on the site to continue to put out any hot spots. The cause of the fire has not been determined. A crew was expected to remain at the scene until late Friday night.
