Coronavirus cluster reported at Kansas Masonic Home

Sedgwick County health officials have reported a cluster of 13 cases of coronavirus at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita.

The cases involve six staff members and seven residents.   Previously, only staff members had tested positive.   All residents are being moved into private rooms with dedicated staff.

County health director Adrienne Byrne said in a press release that the county is working with KMH officials to contain any further spread of COVID-19.   The facility has started infection control measures that include limits on visitation, screening all staff members before they go on duty, and hygiene practices.  Staff members and residents are also wearing face masks and coverings.

Visitation at the facility is limited to comfort care scenarios that will require approval from an administrator or director of nursing.   KMH officials say household coordinators are working to make sure residents are still connected with their families.

The facility had reported in July that some staff members had tested positive for COVID-19, but they did not have symptoms.   Steps were taken to quarantine the staff members and anyone who came in contact with them.
