Survey will look at needs of young people in rural Kansas

A survey will be conducted across Kansas to gather information that will be used for programs to help rural communities.

The Office of Rural Prosperity is working with the Kansas Sampler Foundation on a project called Kansas Power Up and Go.   It will have questions for young professionals between the ages of 21 and 39, and the results will be used to develop future programs and policies to attract young people to rural areas.

Lieutenant governor Lynn Rogers says out-migration has caused rural communities to decline in size and increase in age.  He said focusing on the needs of young professionals will be a key to the future of these areas.

Sampler Foundation executive director Marci Penner says it will be important to collect as many responses as possible to understand what young people want and need, to be engaged and empowered in their communities.

People who are in the 21 to 39 age group and live in rural areas are encouraged to contact the Sampler Foundation to participate in the survey.  The Foundation can be contacted at 620-585-2374 or through the email address of marci@kansassampler.org
