Star Spangled Salute: A Veteran is Reunited With His Hero Dog

Today’s Star Spangled Salute honors Retired U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Harvey Holt.  In a recent interview for the new series, “Hero Dogs”, Harvey said one of the most emotional days of his time serving in Iraq was the day he had to leave his war dog behind. Harvey said, “I never cried in Iraq. I never cried when I left for Iraq. I never cried when I saw my family for the first time or my friends when I came back from Iraq, but when I closed the gate, me and my dog Jackson sat in the kennel and we cried for a good hour, hour and a half”.  Harvey said his dog Jackson saved his life on their very first mission when Jackson stopped Harvey before he stepped on a trip wire tied to IED’s.  Harvey knows, if not for Jackson, he’d be dead. After 7 years, Harvey and Jackson have finally been reunited.  Thank you Harvey and Jackson for your service.
