Two dead after southwest Wichita crash

Two people were killed in a crash at K-42 and Maize Road Thursday morning.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. according to the Kansas Highway Patrol when the driver of a four-door Chrysler sedan turned north on Maize Road and went into the path of a westbound pickup.  The truck struck the car on the passenger side and the woman in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver died later at a hospital.

The KHP has identified the victims as 85-year-old Ira Bonebright of Conway Springs, who was the driver, and 86-year-old Betty Bonebright of Ashland.

The driver of the pickup truck refused being transported to the hospital.

Troopers are still investigating but said both vehicles appeared to have had the green light at the time of the crash.
