Suspect caught following officer-involved shooting in Pawnee County

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said a 21-year-old Lincoln, Nebraska man was captured several hours after he ran from the scene of an officer-involved shooting.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 56, about 3 miles east of Larned.  The KBI said a deputy conducted a traffic stop and when he approached the vehicle, he could smell marijuana coming from inside.

He asked the two men inside to step out, and then during a pat down of the passenger, he began fighting with the deputy.  It led to the deputy shooting at the man who ran away going south.

That man was identified as 21-year-old Alejandro Alvarado.  He was arrested shortly after 8 a.m. in Pawnee Rock, and he was booked into jail on an outstanding warrant from Finney County for aggravated assault.   An EMS crew was called to evaluate Alvarado, although he had not been shot while running from the deputy.    Pawnee County officials are still investigating.
