Wichita banker and community leader Lyndy Wells has announced that he will be a write-in candidate for the Wichita mayor’s office in November.
Wells came in third in the August primary election but trailed Kansas House member Brandon Whipple by less than 300 votes. Whipple and incumbent mayor Jeff Longwell are on the November 5th general election ballot.
Wells issued a statement Thursday saying that he was asked by a number of people to consider a write-in campaign, but he initially declined. He stated, “I have spent the past week listening to supporters and talking with my family. It is not an easy decision. But after many hours in thought and prayer, I feel compelled to run as a write-in candidate to give Wichitans a choice for mayor they know they can trust. I am running because we need to restore public trust to the mayor’s office before we can tackle the other challenging issues facing our city.”
