Sedgwick County deputies have a man in custody after he crashed a stolen truck into a gate at McConnell Air Force Base. Deputies later found out that he was involved in an incident at a school in Derby.
Deputies were sent to a report of a suspicious character around 2 p.m. Tuesday, and they found that a man had crashed a stolen truck into a housing gate off of 31st Street South at McConnell Air Force Base. The man jumped out and ran, but he was caught a short time later.
Deputies learned that the man had been at Wineteer Elementary School in Derby earlier in the afternoon. Six students reported that the man had hit them on the arm or tried to grab their shirt. The school was placed in a lockout situation and all students were accounted for and safe.
