The Kansas Corporation Commission is reminding Kansans of discounts for phone and internet service for low income households.

The Lifeline program has been in place since 1985, and was expanded to include internet service in 2016. Under the federal Lifeline Program, low-income homes can receive up to $9.25 per month off their monthly bill for phone, internet, or bundled phone and internet service.  Households may also be eligible for the state Lifeline program that provides an additional $7.77 monthly discount.

People enrolled in SNAP, Medicaid, Public Housing, and other assistance programs also qualify for Lifeline. There are several ways to determine if a person or household qualifies for assistance.

More information on the program is provided below.
