Costco sells diamond rings.  And not just cheap ones.  They’ve got a bunch of rings that cost more than $50,000, and some over $100,000.  But their most expensive ring is a 10-carat diamond engagement ring that costs $420,000.  And someone actually bought one.  At some point in the first three months of this year, someone really bought a $420,000 diamond ring at Costco.  And we know that because it was such a big purchase that it helped Costco’s entire financial quarter.  Their first-quarter sales were up 5.6%, and they specifically mentioned that the ring purchase made an impact but they didn’t go into any other details like who made the purchase.
