Demolition began Monday morning on the old Mid-Continent International Airport terminal.
The old concourse had been taken down following completion of Eisenhower National Airport next door. The work of building a new airport while demolishing the old was split into two projects to reduce the cost.
Interior demolition began shortly after the opening of the new airport in June of 2015. Asbestos abatement and the amount of interior demolition that needed to be completed slowed the project down.
A portion of the old terminal is being saved. The old airline check-in section will be remodeled to include a vehicle garage and house airport operations.
Work is expected to be completed in October.
