School district officials in Valley Center said Monday that the high school’s varsity baseball season has been suspended because of an investigation into animal cruelty by the team and coaches.

The school district sent a letter to parents saying there was an incident on school property that involved possible animal cruelty, and it involved the entire baseball team and the entire coaching staff.

Valley Center police are investigating, and a decision will be made on the rest of the baseball season when that investigation is concluded.
