1. For the first time in history, prosecutors will present a criminal case against a former American president to a jury Monday as they accuse Donald Trump of a hush money scheme aimed at preventing damaging stories about his personal life from becoming public. A 12-person jury in Manhattan is set to hear opening statements from prosecutors and defense lawyers in the first of four criminal cases against the former President.

2. The Supreme Court today will hear arguments on whether a US city can fine or jail people for sleeping outside. This all began in 2022 in Grants Pass, Oregon, where officials passed laws allowing the city to fine people $295 if found illegally camping on public property. Repeat violators could face added fines or jail time. This ruling has nationwide implications as homeless numbers are on the rise. 

3. Climate change is having a dangerous effect on one of the most delicate ecosystems in the world. Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is currently experiencing the worst mass coral bleaching event on record. The phenomenon occurs when changing water temperatures cause coral to expel colorful algae, potentially leading to coral death.
