Wichita police create a “swatting” alert system

The Wichita Police Department has developed an alert system that can be used by anyone who is concerned that they may become a victim of a “swatting” attack, or a false 911 call to their home.

Officer Paul Cruz said the department and Sedgwick County 911 have developed a system where residents can put an alert on their address if they are concerned that they may be a target of a swatting incident.  The alert would not minimize or slow down emergency services but it would create an awareness for officers who are responding to potential swatting reports.

Citizens can go to the web site www.wichitapolice.com to find a form to fill out.   Cruz said the online request will be sent to a police captain for approval, and then it would go to 911.

A Wichita man was killed as a result of a “swatting” incident in December, 2017.
